Healing + Harmony

FIVE ELEMENTS

Five Elements healing is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) approach to finding balance within our mind, body, and spirit. For thousands of years, the correlation between elements, seasons, organs, emotions, and many more has been developed and passed down throughout generations. Go deeper and learn about each element.

WOOD

Wood energy is of springtime, a symbol of growth and development. To understand what the Wood element means in human life, we can examine a person's ability to grow, organize their thoughts, make plans, and reach goals.

Does your life contain new births and creativity in much the same way as this energy exists in nature? Is there a plan, a vision of where you’re headed? Can you make and commit to the decisions that allow growth to take place?

The healthy/ balanced expression of Wood is probably best considered to be assertiveness and perseverance, like the upward-expanding bamboo shoot that pushes up through a crack in the pavement.

FIRE

Fire energy is of summertime, a symbol of warmth and connection. To understand what the Fire element means in human life, we can examine quite literally if there is warmth in a person's life. The realm of interpersonal relationships is in many ways the focus of Fire, and we can see the health of this element reflected in the ability to communicate, make connections, and develop true intimacy.

Do you have close relationships? Are you happy? Do you have a creative outlet? When was the last time you laughed? Do you give time to your appearance?

The healthy/ balanced expression of Fire is best considered to be confidence and playfulness, like a fire lapping up in all directions, warming the home, and dancing to its own rhythm. A hostess with the mostest, making sure that everyone is having a good time, sharing stories, and filling the room with laughter.

EARTH

Earth energy is of late summer, a symbol of abundance, stability, and groundedness. To understand what the Earth element means in human life, we can examine a person’s relationship with how they give and receive nourishment. Also are they capable of bringing forth a harvest in their own life?

Do you feel nurtured and cared for? Are you giving too much of yourself? Are you feeling grounded or are you seeking validation? Do you feel like you have to earn or prove yourself to be loved? How is your relationship with food?

The healthy/ balanced expression of Earth is best described as a mother caring for her child or as the soil where we plant seeds, providing a safe and nourishing place for us to grow and feed ourselves.

Metal Properties

METAL

Metal energy is of autumn, a symbol of retraction, refinement, and letting go. This season holds a great sense of quality and intentionality- a time for gaining perspective on the accomplishments of the preceding year and making peace with the Creator. To understand what the Metal element means in human life, we can examine their connection to their greater purpose, spirit, and their imbuing life with a sense of quality versus quantity.

Do you feel like you have found your purpose? Do you hold many judgments towards yourself and others? Do you have feelings of not being whole or missing something? Do you put a lot of attention into material possessions?

The healthy/ balanced expression of Metal is best described by balance, discernment, and faith- like the blade of a sword- the creation and wielding of the sword takes true dedication to a craft and mastery of skills.

WATER

Water energy is of winter, a symbol of stillness and rest that allows for the building up of reserves. There is a starkness around us, as seen in the bare branches of the trees and much of the animal world in hibernation. At this time, the life energy is now underground; with the stillness of winter comes tremendous potential, as the winter contains the seed for the new birth of spring. To understand what the Water element means in human life, we can examine a person's ability to flow, find peace, and renew. It brings a cleansing and purification that is necessary for transformation to occur. To participate in the lessons of this element is to experience silent contemplation and stillness, to go inside and descend into the depths and into the mystery of life.

Are you able to be alone? Do you know how to recharge when you are feeling like your adrenals are exhausted? Do you drink enough water? Are you struggling with a lot of fear?

The healthy/ balanced expression of Water is best described by courage, cautiousness, alertness, and willpower- like a body of water it can embody the "go slow and go with the flow" or the "blasting through and will of strength." Also, another beautiful piece of the water element is the mystery and deep wisdom it holds- how it bubbles up from deep below the earth sometimes where you least expect it but just where it needs to be. There is a tremendous inner resource contained within water.
